When is mold a REALLY bad problem
I received a phone call from someone who wanted to get their house painted. They mentioned to me that there was some mildew that was on the ceiling of the bathroom. At the time i didn't think much of it, as that is a problem, especially in the midwest where we have extreme temperature changes. They were hoping that we could just "wipe it off".
I went to the house to take a look at the project and when we got to the bathroom this is what i saw. As you can imagine, this is a A LOT worse than a little bit of mildew. This is full blown mold. I contacted a friend who owns a remediation company to get his thoughts on this. His first words were "WOW! Oh my!".
That pretty much says it all. Here is a man who deals with this for a living and he expressed as much concern for the health and safety of the homeowner as i did. His advice was to get have a mold remediation in this bathroom. If the surfaces looks like this, We have no idea what the trusses look like behind the drywall. There could be a serious issue below the surface that could not only harm the people living there, but spread throughout the entire house.
Sadly, after I expressed my concerns for the homeowner, telling them what my recommendation as well as the suggestions of my friend who is a mold expert. At the time of me talking to them, they didn't think this was a big deal. I ended up not getting the job. But my mind often goes back to that project. I have such concern for their health. I wish I could have done something to help them.
